What We Build

Roman Clay Accent Walls, Hand-Troweled

A soft, matte, hand-applied Roman clay finish — on a media wall, a fireplace surround, or a standalone accent wall — built across Southern California.

Roman clay is a hand-troweled mineral finish that adds depth and warmth without pattern or shine. We use Portola Roman clay, applied in layers, so the wall reads as a soft, continuous surface — on its own, behind the TV, or around a fireplace.

Where Roman clay works

  • Media walls and TV surrounds
  • Electric fireplace surrounds
  • Entry, dining, and bedroom accent walls
  • Full feature walls with shelves and niches

A finish that suits the room

Roman clay comes in a range of tones, from warm white to deeper greige. We sample the color against your light and the rest of the room before applying it, so the finish settles the space rather than competing with it.

Prepared and applied properly

A good clay finish is mostly preparation — a smooth, sealed substrate before the first coat. We handle the wall prep, any framing or repair, and the troweling in-house. Roman clay work starts at $2,900 and carries a one-year workmanship warranty.

Roman clay is a hand-applied mineral plaster that creates a soft, matte, lightly textured surface. It has more depth than paint and a quieter look than polished Venetian plaster.

They are related but different. Lime wash is a thin, brushed finish with subtle cloudiness; Roman clay is troweled in layers for a smoother, more solid surface. We offer both and can sample each.

Yes. Roman clay is a common finish for media walls and fireplace surrounds. We plan the wiring and mounting first, then apply the finish over the prepared surface.
